Amy Barr Therapist NY Embracing Equanimity

I am writing this review not out of malice, but as a warning to anyone who’s looking for a therapist, for themselves or a loved one!

Amy Barr, a therapist here, lists all forms of abuse as an area of focus. This gave me hope that she would recognize the signs - the victimhood performance, the lack of accountability, the distorted narratives, the charm that masks manipulation. She did not.

Amy is a prime example of bad therapy. A therapist who will create more harm than good. Bad therapist, misinformed therapist, someone creating a source of $ comes to mind.

Thanks to Amy, I saw a loved one who emerged from sessions armed with new language - “boundaries,” “trauma,” “toxic” - weaponized against persons. Therapy became a place to rehearse victimhood, not to heal from it.

Amy validated it, didn’t challenge it, and only reinforced it. If you genuinely want to improve this therapist will only validate the worst. You will not heal and the therapist here is unable to see it. She will validate. She will affirm. She will nod along. And she will send your loved one back into the world unchanged, armed, and enabled.

A therapist who specializes in abuse should know that abusers often present as victims. A therapist who lists complex trauma as a focus should know that compassion without confrontation can enable harm. Amy, in my experience, did not demonstrate this awareness.

If you are seeking a therapist who can deal with complex personality dynamics, look elsewhere. If  https://www.google.com  want someone who is going to ruin your life, but make you feel great the entire time - then she’s your pick.
